There's a good chance that among the first specialists to care for your baby in the hospital will be a neonatologist or a neonatal nurse practitioner.  This clinician potentially will see your newborn in the delivery room soon after delivery.  Neonatologists are pediatric doctors who have had additional fellowship training in the care of newborns.  A neonatal nurse practitioner is a nurse who has undergone advanced training and also specializes in newborn care.
